Frequently asked questions

Common Questions

What types of passwords can I generate?

The app offers three generator modes:

Random Password — full control over length (4–64 characters), character sets (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols), and an option to exclude visually similar characters like l, 1, I, O, 0 that commonly cause login errors.

Passphrase — word-based passwords like velvet-otter-stack-42 that are genuinely strong and easier to remember. Choose word count, separator character, and capitalization style.

PIN — 4 to 12-digit numeric codes with an option to avoid sequential or repeating digits.

Is anything saved or stored on my device?

No — nothing is ever saved. Every password, passphrase, and PIN exists only in temporary memory while you're looking at it. Nothing is written to your device's storage, no database is used, and no cloud sync exists.

When you navigate away from a screen or close the app, the generated passwords are gone. That is intentional — this app is a generator, not a vault.

Does the app need an internet connection?

No. All password generation happens entirely on your device using a cryptographically secure random number generator (Random.secure()). No data leaves your phone during generation.

An internet connection is only used to load banner ads. The core generator works fully offline.

How does the strength meter work?

The strength dial shows an instant rating — Weak, Medium, Strong, or Very Strong — based on the length, character variety, and entropy of the generated password.

The rating is shown as both a color-coded circular arc and a text label so you are never relying on color alone to judge strength.

What is "Exclude similar characters" and why would I use it?

Some characters look nearly identical depending on the font used — for example l (lowercase L), 1 (one), I (uppercase i), O (uppercase o), and 0 (zero).

Enabling this option removes those characters from the pool so every character in your generated password is visually unambiguous. This reduces transcription errors when you need to type a password manually.

What is clipboard auto-clear?

When you copy a password, the app starts a 30-second timer. Once it expires, the password is automatically wiped from your clipboard. This prevents sensitive content from lingering in your paste buffer after you've finished using it.

You can toggle this feature on or off in Settings → Privacy.

How do I generate passwords in bulk?

From the Home screen, tap Bulk batch & CSV export at the bottom. On the Batch screen, select how many passwords you want (10, 50, or 100), then tap Generate. The app generates them all using your current Random tab settings.

Tap Export as CSV to share the list via your device's share sheet — save to Files, send by email, or pass to any app on your device.

Are generated passwords saved after I export the CSV?

No. The CSV is generated in memory and handed directly to your device's share sheet. The app never writes the password data to a permanent file on your device.

Once you leave the Batch screen, navigate away, or close the app, the batch list is cleared from memory immediately.

Why does the app show ads?

A small banner ad helps keep the app free. There are no full-screen ads that block your workflow and no popups while you're copying or generating passwords.

An interstitial ad may occasionally appear after a CSV export — it is frequency-capped and will never block the share sheet itself.

Can I change the app's default settings?

Yes. Open Settings (gear icon, top right of the Home screen). From there you can:

• Set your default generator tab (Random / Passphrase / PIN)
• Toggle dark mode
• Enable or disable clipboard auto-clear
• View the Privacy Policy

Preferences are saved locally on your device using your device's standard app storage and are never synced to a server.

Is the app available on both iOS and Android?

Yes. Simple Password Generator is available on both the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).

Does this app have a premium version or subscription?

No. There is no premium tier, no subscription, and no in-app purchases. Every feature — including bulk batch generation and CSV export — is available for free.
